Wedding Photography, The Do's and Don'ts

      Weddings

I Love Weddings, and I'd love to help photograph yours

———

Here are some Do's and Don'ts of my Wedding Photography:

Do: Take hundreds of pictures.  With digital cameras and large storage capacity, thousands of pictures can be taken without changing batteries or storage media.  You can never have too many pictures.

DO:  Get as many candid and un-posed moments as possible

DO:  Take as many pictures as possible of the little things...There's plenty of it

Do:  Bring more than one camera.  We shoot a wedding with no less than three. A Nikon D2x and 2 Nikon D300s, and every now and then a fourth Nikon D40x, all taking extremely high quality photographs. Two photographers, sometimes three depending on the size of the wedding cover the entire function from start to finish.

Don't:  Stay too long.  There is a point where the kids need their time without a photographer around.  The photo below is about where I make my exit.  By this time, we will have plenty of great photographs.

Do:  Make a list of what you are looking for in your photographer and what pictures you expect to have made. Group shots, family, friends, etc.  It's all up to you, but we can help you through this process.  We want to make your wedding day as free of decision making as possible.  We'll make your list happen, and we encourage spontaneous shots as well.

(This part has nothing to do with photography really. It's just advice I give all brides.)

Remember to keep things simple, have fun and enjoy the day with friends and family.  Try not to have a strict schedule, leaving yourself open for spontaneity and more enjoyable moments. And finally, don't forget to eat, but don't worry, I'll remind you.

Weddings are a special event.  You deserve the best photographer that can give you what you are looking for.  I have a list of other photographers I can recommend if we aren't the ones that will fill your needs.

Have you considered getting married on a cruise ship in the Bahamas or Caribbean?  I'll go with you and photograph the whole trip.  You can eat 6 meals a day with no catering expenses. Get married in the Chapel or on the beach, go back to the ship and party at one of the Lounges.  Cover all my travel expenses except for alcohol and other charges I might incur myself while on board.  I'll work 3 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the evening each day of the cruise, plus whatever is needed to cover the ceremony.  The total price I charge will be based on the length of the cruise and any particulars we contract on. Spontaneous moments will not be billed as an extra charge as long as it's not abused.  I'm there anyway, I might as well shoot.  Let's chat.

Contracts:  After lengthy discussions, we will pattern each contract to suit your individual needs and budget requirements.  We don't do "Packages" based on my selfish needs.

All contracts require a 50% non-refundable deposit to be paid 60 days prior to the original wedding date. If the wedding is within 60 days at contract time, the deposit must be paid at the signing of the contract.  This deposit will be credited toward the final amount billed.   All billed amounts are due 30 days after receipt of the final bill.  All this information will be on the contract.  Since each contract is authored specifically for each event, there is not a "Standard" or "Cookie-cutter" contract.  We write it as we go.

Things to consider photographing:

Bridal Portrait and Modeling the Dress, Engagement party, Showers, Rehearsal and Dinner, Guests arriving at Airport, Bride and Groom out and about in town, on the beach, or in the country.  What ideas do you have?

What picture do you want on the wall in your home in 20 years?

A Great Read:

I'm not suggesting that you're a Dummy, but not too many people know all the ins and outs of planning a wedding.  A little help never hurts.
